Recycled Paper Art - IDENTITI
“Identity” is a half-face portrait that explores the journey toward self-awareness and understanding of one’s own identity in today’s rapidly changing, information-saturated world. The work emphasizes the crucial importance of recognizing who you are—this awareness defines the depth and fullness of one’s life.
The half-face visually represents living only partially aware of your true identity. The door in the composition symbolizes the ever-present opportunity to return to your inner center and rediscover your authentic self.
The piece was inspired by a story from the artist’s life: a dialogue between a child and his mother about national flags became a metaphor for identity and belonging. The boy drew the flag of England; the mother said it wasn’t their flag—“Ours is red-white-red, the flag of Latvia.” The boy responded: “That is your flag; my country is this.”
This portrait invites a reflection on identity as both a personal choice and a narrative, while conveying emotional depth, maturity, and cultural context. It is a meaningful addition to collections that value stories, authenticity, and long-term significance.
